Nicki Lewis-Smith

MI Hort Dip GLDD

Based in the medieval town of Ludlow, Shropshire, Nicki has worked for several years maintaining and creating gardens.

Her projects have included re-instating 18th century planting in the garden of the historic Broad Gate in Ludlow, a Zen garden and a contemporary courtyard no more than 9 sq. metres.

She draws inspiration not only from her idyllic surroundings, but from ‘seeing’... moss covered walls, the softness of a river pebble, the pattern on a leaf, changes in light and sharp, shifting shadows. With a photographers eye, every detail is logged and remembered.

Nicki also believes that plants are the very backbone of any good garden design and should not be an afterthought.

“Plants are vital to well-being, balance and life, whether in a public or private space. They should be more than just green shading on a piece of paper."
